Segmenter help

Split a long audio or video file into topic clips, using your own OpenRouter key.

What this does

Cuts a long recording into smaller pieces you can actually work with, which is useful for a lecture, an interview, or a podcast you want to quote from.

It transcribes the recording, then an AI model works out where each topic starts and ends and gives each clip a title. Both steps need an OpenRouter key of your own.

How to use it

  1. Add your OpenRouter key in Settings, once.
  2. Add your audio or video file. It pulls out the audio and transcribes it.
  3. Pick a clip length and press Find segments.
  4. Review the segments it proposes, and edit any titles.
  5. Extract or render the clips you want, or export an EDL or FCPXML for your video editor.

About the OpenRouter key

Turning speech into text and finding the topics is done by an outside service, so it needs an OpenRouter key of your own. You paste the key in once and it is kept on your device.

This means the audio from your file is sent to OpenRouter to be transcribed. The video itself stays on your computer, and the clips are cut there too.

Your privacy The audio from your file is sent to OpenRouter to be transcribed, and the transcript is sent there to find the topics, because that work cannot be done on your device. Your video is never uploaded, and cutting the clips happens entirely inside your browser.

Common questions

Do I need an OpenRouter key?
Yes. Both the transcription and the topic finding run through OpenRouter.
What does a key cost?
You pay OpenRouter directly for what you use, usually a very small amount for speech. This tool adds no charge.
Where is my key stored?
On your own device, in your browser. It is never sent anywhere except to OpenRouter when you transcribe.
